National Democratic Congress (NDC) footsoldiers are saying Dr Benjamin Kumbuor, a leading NDC Chairmanship aspirant is very ‘chisel’, and this will serve to work against him becoming the party’s National Chairman.

In February this year, MyNewsGH.com exclusively reported that the Former Minister for Defense and Interior under the previous NDC administration, Dr Benjamin Kumbuor is lacing his boots to join the race for the NDC’s chairmanship.

Sources close to him confided in MyNewsGH.com that Dr Kumbuor is set to contest as National Chairman of the party when nominations are open in the immediate future.

But NDC members have since been talking about his chances following his declaration, saying he is too chisel to lead a party in opposition ‘when resources must flow.’

“Dr Kumbuor is a ‘chisel’ man who doesn’t easily part with money when he engages with party footsoldiers,” one footsoldier said.

Party executives who have had a chance of an encounter with him say unlike other aspirants who will give transport or pure water money, “Oooh, Dr Kumbuor will not mind you saf”, another said.

While they admit he is a good man for the job, they say they won’t vote for him, flatly over his ‘chisel life’.

One for the comments reads:

“In opposition we need resources. If NDC makes that mistake of making this man chairman, we will rot in opposition. He doesn’t give. I know people close to him’.

Other NDC Big men NDC footsoldiers cite as ‘chisel’ include Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah, a flagbearer aspirant, James Agalga, Felix Kwakye Ofosu among others while top-most on the giving-list is John Mahama’s brother Ibrahim Mahama.

Benjamin Bewa-Nyog Kumbuor

Dr Benjamin Kumbour has served as lawmaker for Lawra-Nandom before it was split forcing him to cede the Lawra part to another candidate when it was established.

He is back to the Ghana Law School as a Senior Lecturer; a place he was before entering mainstream politics.

After his decision not to contest the Nandom seat in the 2016 elections, it was won by current Minister of Interior Ambrose P. Dery on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Dr Kumbour’s team spoke to MyNewsGh.com about His chances:

“His inclusion certainly will bring renew zeal and vigor to the NDC Chairmanship title race. Friends of Kumbour across the country are excited at this news and are lacing their boots for a door- to-door campaign to ensure he is the next NDC Chairman”, he revealed.

Other names who have declared interest in the chairmanship include incumbent Kofi Portuphy (who we gather is afraid to openly declare), Madam Betty Mould Iddrisu, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, and Prof. Kwesi Botchwey formerly interested but now eyeing a competition with John Mahama.
