Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology, Gloria Holm-Graves, has described the late Minister of Environment, Science and Technology as a leader who was passionate about his job.
Speaking with the media during the signing of the book of condolence at the Ministry on Monday, August 11 2025, she recalled how the late Dr Murtala always arrived at work early with his day already planned.

"He was very passionate about his job, he would come in very early in the morning, before 7am, he's already in and would have his day planned out. He was not that person that would wait for tomorrow. He was on the move each day and every moment. He was that kind of the moment person which I really did appreciate.
"He would be amongst the earliest to be here for any assignment, and he wouldn't wait on you. If you needed to do something, he'll quickly go there. When you come, you have to join him. It doesn't matter the time. And that is how passionate and how efficient he was," she recalled.
Gloria Holm-Graves further noted that the news of his death was a big blow to the Ministry.
“These have been difficult times for us. Sometimes it feels unreal, and then, in the middle of our work, the reality of the loss strikes again. Those who are strong console those who are struggling, and together we keep going,” she said.
