Despite the fact that the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection has come out to deny allegations of playing a role in securing the verdict in the landmark election petition trial, in favour of the President, a deputy Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling for a written statement in response to the claim.
According to Mike Oquaye Jnr., the assertions that were made in the leaked tape in which Victoria Hammah, the dismissed Deputy Minister of Communications was heard telling an unidentified lady of the role of Nana Oye Lithur, the Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister in getting the apex court of the land to rule favourably for President Mahama, whose Presidency was being challenged, are gargantuan and wants the security agencies to invite her for questioning.
“Apart from Nana Oye Lithur’s denial, I expect, like it has been the case with BNI in particular, where they would invite you and ask you what you know about the case. To invite Victoria Hammah, then they should invite Nana Oye Lithur to tell us…did you go to the Justices before the court case and did you help the NDC win the case?”
“With this, she would give an official statement. Yes, not that you said something on some radio station and so on. No, we don’t want that” he argued forcefully on Metro TV’s ‘Good Morning Ghana’.
Mike Oquaye Jnr. made these submissions during a panel discussion on the leaked tape that has lead to the ousting of Victoria Hammah from her position as the deputy communications Minister in the Mahama-led administration.
To him, the allegations against the Gender, Women and Social Protection minister are very serious and must be treated as such.
