…Court Cautions Unprofessional Police Commander

…The Citizen Finally Vindicated

By Citizen News Desk

The court has once again administered justice without fear or favour in the issue which vindicates The Citizen Newspaper on its continuous reportage about the unprofessional conduct of the outgoing Tema Regional Police Commander, ACP Augustine Gyening who, in his parochial interest, has taken stance against and terrorizing one Agnes Nortey Sai and Osuwem family who legitimately own the controversial 85 acre Dowhenya lands in the Tema Metropolis.

The Police Commander, mandated to ensure peace and security in the area has rather, after a competent court had determined ownership of the land and had therefore ordered the demolition of unauthorized structures, connived with some cronies to cause arrest and unlawful detentions of the Sai family.

In a contempt suit against the Police Commander before the Financial Division of the Accra High Court presided over by His Lordship Justice John Ajet-Nasam, the court has ruled that the conduct of the police is unprofessional, breach of the law and indeed contempt of the orders of the court. The Judge in is judgment spelt out the unprofessional conduct of the Tema police commander.

“When I read this, with deductive reasoning, I am of the considered opinion that ACP Augustine Gyening had nurtured some grudge against Agnes Nortey,” the judge stated.

The judgment further stated that, “The 4th and 5threspondents (the commander his cronies) instead of apologizing as to their interference in the demolishing exercise are rudely denying their role. The 4th and 5th respondents, spelt out that their actions were actuated by distress call from one Korean J.L Lee is ‘a ruse and subtle mask’ to cover up their unlawful order against what was granted by this court.”

In conclusion of his judgment, His Lordship Justice John Ajet-Nasam noted, “the defective evidence as held supra is a ruse and as such, shows a sour relationship between 4th and 5th respondents and Agness Nortey and her people. I find the 4th and 5th respondents’ actions contemptuous and seriously warn the 4th and 5th respondents to desist permanently from such conduct. They are hereby warned in no uncertain terms that, they should operate within the law and if anything of their character occurs again, they will be liable to instant committal” he said. He finally noted that “it is hoped they will no more use such defective and unwarranted excuses to harass the applicant’s family.”

In an interview with Agnes Sai, she called on the Inspector General of Police to take action on the Police Commander to ensure that such police officers who drag the name of the noble profession into disrepute are dealt with accordingly.
