Drinking spree leaves one dead and two on admission

Ajumako (C/R), Nov 23, GNA - Three young men in their twenties, on Sunday, November 21, who went on a drinking spree from Agona Swedru to Ajumako ended up at the Ajumako District Hospital with one dead. The dead body of Paul Kwabena Adjei, 24, has since been deposited at Cape Coast Government Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examination. The two on admission are Stephen Kwashie, 28 and Kwame Ofori, 27. According to the District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth Tay, the three hired a taxi from Agona Swedru and started their drinking spree expedition to Ajumako.

At Ajumako, they visited a friend who took them to a local Akpeteshie bar where they took in extra Akpeteshie mixed with ginger. The three collapsed at about 1530 hours in the house of their host who rushed them to the Ajumako District Hospital. However Adjei died on the way to the Hospital.

According to ASP Tay, the bar owner and the attendant are all in police custody helping the police in their investigations while specimen of the drink has been sent to forensic laboratory for a test. When the Ghana News Agency visited the Hospital the two were responding to treatment, where Kwame Ofori could only say that he hails from Kwahu but could not tell how and when he came to the hospital whilst Stephen Kwashie could not speak.
