Tema, Aug 18, - The Tema Circuit Tribunal has imposed 150,000 cedis fine on a taxi driver who knocked down a cyclist resulting in his death. Joseph Kwakwa Kramo, pleaded guilty to the charges of careless driving and negligently causing harm. The 150,000 cedis fine on each count was to run concurrently. The tribunal said since the accused paid 500,000 cedis to the bereaved family for the burial of the deceased, it could not order for the payment of any additional award to the family. ASP Michael Yirenkyi, prosecuting told the tribunal chaired by Major (rtd) Jacob Abobor that on October 15, 1996, Kramo, was driving a taxi on Kwesi Plange road where he claimed he felt a sharp pain in the left eye. He said the driver said he therefore closed that eye while driving and this made him to swerve from his lane to the other side of the road and knocked down Anthony Kwabena, aged 35, who was riding a bicycle.
