Driver arraigned for robbery

Eric Segla, a driver, on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly robbing one Lawrence Ofosu Asare of his jeans trousers worth GH?30.00 and an amount of GH? 150.00.

Eric pleaded not guilty to the charge telling the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that he took the complainant's jeans trousers when he caught him sleeping with his girlfriend in her kiosk.

He said this was, after his girlfriend had called him to buy her food.

He was, however, granted the bail of GH?20,000.00 with two sureties.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Grace Bandoh told the court that the complainant, Lawrence is a student and lives at Dome, while the accused person is a professional driver and also lives at Dome.

She said on October 11, the complainant met the accused person in a drinking spot and the accused requested for a bottle of beer from him and he obliged.

She said on October 12, at about 0430 hours, the complainant and his girlfriend who is a witness in the case, were asleep in her kiosk at Dome, but were woken by a heavy bang on the structure.

The prosecutor said later they saw Eric holding a knife threatening to stab them with it if they did not surrender the cash they have on them.

She said the accused person succeeded in taking away the complainant's jeans trousers and the money. A report was made to the police.

Police Inspector Bandoh said on October 24, the complainant’s friends- Kofi Adu and two others managed to arrest the accused person and sent him to the Mile 7 police station.

During investigations, Eric, agreed to pay for the jeans trousers and also to refund the money. He also admitted going to the kiosk but denied threatening the complainant with a knife.
