Aflao, May 26, GNA - Mensah Ahiaforkpor a 35-year-old unlicensed driver, was jailed three years in hard labour by the Aflao Circuit court for the death of three passengers in an accident involving his uninsured and un-roadworthy vehicle on the Afife-Ave-Dzalele feeder road. The court presided over by Group-Captain Martin Obeng-Ntim (rtd) banned Mensah Ahiaforkpor from driving for life after serving his sentence.

Ahiaforkpor pleaded guilty to five counts of driving without a driver's license, use of vehicle without road worthiness certificate, driving an uninsured vehicle, careless driving and negligently causing harm.

Inspector Samuel Kaklaku told the court that Ahiaforkpor on January 6, 2008 was driving an Opel taxi cab with eight passengers on board from Afife on the Accra/Aflao highway to Ave-Dzalele on the Ho Aflao trunk road.

He lost control of the car as he negotiated a curve at high speed causing the car to somersault repeatedly resulting in the death of Victor Davor and Forster Korto on the spot while Elikplim Dadadzogbor died later at the Dzodze Saint Anthony's Hospital. Mr Kaklaku said the Ahiaforkpor absconded without reporting the accident to the police until he was arrested at Ave-Dzalele six months later.
