Accra, Aug. 25, GNA - A 37-year-old driver with Audit Service in Accra, who allegedly had sex with his 10-year-old daughter, appeared before a circuit tribunal in Accra on Wednesday charged with incest. He pleaded not guilty and was granted 10 million cedis bail with one surety to be justified.

He will appear again on August 31. Police Inspector Alex Yartey Tawiah told the tribunal, chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson Yeboah, that following a quarrel between the driver and his wife, she left the matrimonial home at Lartebiokorshie to live with her mother at Kwashieman.

The girl, however, stayed with her father. He said on June 23, the driver went to Kwashieman to inform his wife that their daughter was ill. According to the prosecutor, the woman went for her daughter and noticed that the girl's vagina was mutilated.

Upon interrogation, the victim revealed that her father threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her last Christmas and on June 18. The prosecutor said the victim's grandmother made a report to the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Police Service (WAJU), who arrested him but he denied the allegation during Police investigation.

The victim attended Kaneshie Polyclinic and was referred to a gynaecologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
