Accra Sept. 17, GNA - A 50-year-old driver, Joshua Addo, was on Thursday put before an Accra Circuit Court on charges of indecent assault and defiling his 13 year old niece. Addo has pleaded not guilty to the two charges. The court, presided over by Mrs Patience Mills Tetteh, remanded him into prison custody to reappear on September 29. Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah

said the complainant was the victim's mother. In the year 2007, prosecution said the complainant engaged the services of Addo to be driving the victim and her siblings to school and other places of interest. During that period, prosecution said the complainant travelled abroad

and left the victim and her siblings under the care of Addo. He said accused began inserting his fingers into the vagina of the victim

who was then 10 years, and when she was 11, Addo started having sex

with her adding he did that on several occasions. ASP Acquah said the victim then attained the age of 13 and began

menstruating but she bled profusely during those times. On August 19, this year, at about 9:30pm, the complainant became

alarmed over the plight of her daughter and therefore subjected her to

series of questioning. She (victim) mentioned that it was the accused who had been inserting his fingers into her vagina and had sexual intercourse with her on several occasions. When the complainant confronted the accused he admitted having sex

with the victim. Prosecution said a report was therefore made to the police while a

medical form was issued to the victim for treatment. In his cautioned statement, prosecution said Addo admitted the

offence.
