Cape Coast, May 2, GNA - Albert Amponsah, a-22-year-old driver was on Friday fined GH¢500 by a circuit court in Cape Coast for various traffic offences. Amponsah, pleaded guilty to failing to send vehicle to police station, stopping at unauthorized place, using private driving license for commercial purposes and picking passengers at unauthorised place. He would serve a 12-month prison term in hard labour in default. All the counts run concurrently.

Amponsah, pleaded guilty to failing to send vehicle to police station, stopping at unauthorized place, using private driving license for commercial purposes and picking passengers at unauthorised place. Chief Inspector Oheneba Amoako-Boateng told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu that on April 26, 2008, the Cape Coast Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) officials were on patrol when they saw Amponsah, then driving a Hyundai Grace bus, stop around the Cape Coast STC yard to pick passengers. He said the police moved to the vehicle and asked Amponsah to drive them to the police station, but instead, he took them to a different destination were they had to call for police reinforcement to have him arrested. Chief Inspector Amoako-Boateng said during interrogations, it was detected that Amponsah was using a private license B1 to drive a commercial vehicle.
