A Cape Coast District Magistrate Court on Tuesday sentenced a driver, Issakah Wallah, to a fine of Ghc600.00 for stealing a pregnant nanny goat at Akotokyire, a suburb of the Cape Coast Metropolis.

Wallah, who pleaded guilty, was convicted on his own plea and would serve a six month jail term in default.

Police Inspector Charles Effah told the court presided over by Mr Michael Gyamfi, that the complainant, Mr. Yaro Sapak also a driver, is a resident of Akotokyire while Wallah lives near the Cape Coast Polytechnic.

He said the complainant aside driving, rears goats in his house, but in the past months lost all of them to thieves, except the pregnant nanny goat.

Inspector Effah said on Saturday December 6, this year at about 1500hours, Wallah, while driving a Hyundai Accent Taxi with registration number GN1322-11, through Akotokyire, spotted the goat at the outskirts of the suburb.

Wallah lured the goat near his car with maize, caught it, covered it with a piece of cloth, hid it in his vehicle and to avoid being noticed, used an unapproved route and drove off the scene.

Unfortunately for him, his vehicle got stuck along the way and the people who came to help him push the vehicle, saw the goat and suspecting he might have stolen it, raised the alarm, attracting a mob to the scene.

Inspector Effah said the timely intervention of the Police saved Wallah from being lynched by the angry mob.

Wallah was taken to the police station, together with his vehicle and the goat, which was later identified by the complainant.
