Accra, June 2, GNA - A 37 year-old driver whose truck fell on an Alfa Romeo Taxi three days ago killing three persons instantly on Thursday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Ibrahim Mohamed was charged with reckless driving and negligently causing harm.
His plea was not taken and the Court remanded him into prison custody to reappear on June 18.
The case as presented by Police Chief Inspector Dora Seiwah was that on May 31, this year, Mohammed was driving an articulated truck with registration number GR 261 L, which was loaded with beans, from the 37 Military Hospital to Achimota.
The Prosecutor said on reaching Ebony Traffic Light area, Mohammed veered off from his lane and in the process the container on his truck though fastened with a nylon rope snapped and the load fell on a taxicab and trapped four occupants in the taxi.
The Prosecutor said three of the occupants Ernest Adjei, Comfort Ama Kese and Stephanie Adjei Kyere, alias Nana Kyeraa, died instantly. The driver of the taxi, Eric Adjei, who was injured, was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital, while the deceased were also deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra.
Meanwhile, Ghana News Agency reports from Akwatia indicate that the victims of the motor accident - Mr Kwame Agyei, alias Kwame Ernest, his wife, Comfort Ama Sekyibea Kesse and their daughter, Nana Kyeraa, all deceased, and the surviving driver, Nana Yaw, a nephew of Mr Agyei, were all from Akwatia.
A family spokesman at Akwatia told the GNA on Wednesday after the newsbreak that Mr Agyei was based in London and was returning to Akwatia having been met by his wife, daughter and nephew on arrival in Accra earlier on Tuesday. The newsbreak on Tuesday night threw the entire family and sympathisers into uncontrolled wailing and mourning till daybreak.
