Little did Kofi Banson, a driver, at Akim Asene suspect that a misunderstanding between him and his sister would expose an illegal concealment of quantity of dried leaves suspected to be “wee” (narcotic drug) in his room.
The discovery of the drug has led to his imprisonment to 12 years in hard labour.
After Banson had pleaded guilty to possessing narcotic drugs, the trial judge, Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong stated that the Akim Swedru Circuit Court would not hesitate to impose a stiffer punishment on people who deal in illegal drugs and condemned illicit drug peddling.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Akim Oda, Detective Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah said on February 13, this year, at about 21:00 hours Banson had a scuffle with his sister, whose name he declined to mention and therefore, reported the matter to the police.
He said the police proceeded to Banson’s house at Akim Asene in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region and in the process of arresting Banson, the police came across quantity of wee concealed in his room.
During interrogation, Banson told the police that the stuff belonged to him. Banson was therefore prosecuted accordingly, Chief Inspector Ahenkorah said.
