Driver remanded for robbery and rape

Takoradi, Jan. 31, GNA - Takoradi Circuit Court "A" on Friday remanded Kwabena Ntsiful, a driver for alleged rape and robbery. Ntsiful pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on February 11, while one Adama jointly charged with Ntsiful is on the run. Police Chief Inspector Kumah Mensah, prosecuting told the court that the complainant, Emelia Chariwa also known as Korkor was unemployed and on the night of January 25 this year, the complainant chartered the taxi driven by the accused from Takoradi to Sekondi.

He said the complainant enquired about the presence of Adama on the taxi and was told he was a passenger and would get down on the way, but when they reached Okatekyie Hotel junction, the accused diverted and stopped by the roadside.


Police Chief Inspector Mensah said the accused asked the complainant for sex but when she refused they assaulted her and when she became weak the accused raped her and Adama took her Motorola Cell Phone valued 80 Ghana Cedis and 50 Ghana Cedis cash.

He said when Adama also attempted to rape her some personnel of Real Life Security who were on night patrol arrived at the scene, the accused persons took to their heels and abandoned the taxi. The prosecution said the complainant reported the incident to Effiakuma Police who arrested the accused and after investigations charged with the offence.
