Lartey Donney, a 25-year-old taxi driver, was on Friday remanded into Prisons for two weeks by a Koforidua Magistrate’s Court “A” for running his cab over a Senior Police Crime Officer. The policeman was preventing the driver from driving through a-one-way carriage road in Koforidua, when the incident happened.

Donney would re-appear in the court presided over by Mrs Cynthia Wiredu on February 7. Police Inspector Isaac K. Darko, prosecuting, told the court that at about 0815 hours on January 24, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Stephen Akowuah, the Second-in Command of the Eastern Regional Police Criminal Investigations Department was driving from Galloway towards Adweso direction in Koforidua.

He said on reaching a section of the road at a place popularly known as “205”, the complainant saw Donney who was driving a taxi and heading towards the opposite direction of the road. The complainant identified himself to Donney and advised him to take the approved route but he became furious and refused to comply with the directive.

The prosecutor said Donney ordered the complainant to allow him to use the “one-way” or else he would run over him.

He made true his threat and ran over the complainant’s left foot injuring him in the process.

The complainant then called for reinforcement and Donney was arrested and later charged with two counts of driving on wrong-side of the road and dangerous driving.
