Drivers Warned Not To Win Sand At Night

Fri, 26 Sep 1997 Source: --

Dodowa (Greater Accra Region) 24 Sept., The Standing Committee of the Shai Traditional Council has warned tipper truck drivers operating in the area to desist from winning sand in the night or face the consequences. No tipper truck will also be allowed to carry sand, stones or gravels after 1700 hours. The warning came after an emergency meeting of the standing committee at Dodowa today following reports of theft of farm crops. A spokesman for the Standing committee said investigations it had undertaken had proved that thefts of food crops were the work of some of the tipper truck drivers. The committee expressed the view that night operations by the tipper drivers also result in tax evasion. The council therefore advises all tipper truck owners to monitor the movement of their drivers since anyone caught flouting the order will be prosecuted.
