Drivers advised to study the GPRTU constitution

Apam, Jan. 7, GNA - The Chairman of the Apam branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Mr John Coffie, has exhorted drivers to study the constitution of the union to enable them to abide by it.

Mr. Coffie said there was no way a worker who was very conversant with the rules and regulations of his work could be cheated by his employers or management.

Making the call at the inauguration of Apam taxi local union of GPRTU at Apam, Mr. Coffie urged transport owners to register with any branch or local branches to enable the union to protect them from being exploited by their drivers.

He explained that trotro drivers could register with a taxi local union but added that it was against the union's constitution for a driver to register with two branches or local unions.

The branch chairman advised drivers to respect passengers since without them drivers would not be able to pay for their vehicles. Mr. Kenneth Yeboah, the local union chairman stressed the need for drivers to be disciplined, adding that any member who showed disrespect to passengers or fellow drivers and executives of either the local or the branch unions would be sanctioned.

Mr. Yeboah, on behalf of the executives pledge to offer dedicated service to improve transportation in the area.

Mr. John Otabil, a senior station guard cautioned the executives against loading vehicles which had no relevant documents covering them. The other members of the executives are Ebenezer Quaquah, Vice Chairman Isaac K. Arthur, Secretary, Ebenezer Hammond, First Trustee and Joseph Arthur, Second Trustee.
