Alhaji Iddrisu Tetteh Ashley, the Greater Accra Regional Vice Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has called on drivers to obey simple basic driving regulations, to minimise road accidents.

He said there is the need for drivers to have a continuous education of driving to play their roles effectively and to be vigilant to avoid carnage on the roads.

Alhaji Tetteh Ashley made the call when he handed over a certificate to the Circle Overhead Holy Garden Trotro Operational branch in Accra.

He reiterated the advice to drivers to guard against driving when exhausted and reminded them that since the lives of the passengers lie in their hands, they should take time off to rest when tired.

He called on the executives of the branch to be mindful of their four-year mandate so that they avoid being dictatorial in the handling of their members.

Alhaji Tetteh Ashley asked the drivers to pay their dues promptly and allow the constitution to guide them in their administration to ensure peace and harmony at all times.

Mr Joseph Tei Amu, the Chairman of the new branch, who received the certificate on behalf of the members, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that he would focus on trade union education as a priority and use it to increase contacts and build stronger partnerships with the Regional and National Secretariat.
