The Ghana Police Service, via its Public Affairs Department, has again, warned the public against the usage and sale of firecrackers, popularly called knockouts.

In an interview with TV Africa News, the Director, Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman, said anyone caught exploding them this yuletide will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with section 6 of the Public Order Act 491 of 1994.

Festivals, such as Eid, Christmas and New Year – with their reveling and excessive vehicular traffic – are incidentally characterized by the explosion of the banned product. Deputy Superintendent of Police Abayie-Buckman warned avid users of knockouts to desist from the practice.

This attitude, she stressed, will be rebuffed, as personnel are keen to enforce the law, which empowers them to arrest and prosecute perpetrators.

Major event organizers were also asked to corporate with the police this yuletide to ensure smooth celebrations.

On the issue of ritual murders and highway robbers which are an eminent possibility during this season, she assured that the police are on high alert to counter, urging the public to expose such individuals for arrest.
