Drought affects Rice production at Nasia

Nasia (N/R), Sept 22, GNA - Rice farmers in the Nasia and Janga Valleys in the Northern Region, have expressed concern about the poor rainfall pattern, which is affecting crop yield.

Three weeks of drought spanning the last week of August and the first two weeks of September, had dried up the rice fields. Mr Madish Abukari, Overseer of the Gbiligu Organic Rice Farm, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), at Nasia, that although the fields had bonds to harvest water, all the reserves had dried up.

Mr Charles Adda, an Agriculture Extension Officer, also told the time when there were no rains. He said groundnut and late millet production would also be affected.
