RESIDENTS of Accra New Town have warned that unless the security agencies take a critical and stern look at the activities of drug dealers and addicts, hundreds of children living within the vicinity are likely to be exposed to drug addiction. They expressed that their are concerns about the way the drug dealers are manipulating the good children.

In separate interviews with Daily Guide over the weekend, residents disclosed that the dealers and the addicts have threatened them with death if they dared to complain about their activities. Some of the residents, who could not endure the ordeals, have appealed to the Police Service to extend their patrols to the area to help do something about the activities of the drug dealers.

Investigations conducted by Daily Guide reveal that the drug dealers and the addicts have been invading the popular area called “college”, as far back as the 1970’s and are still operating in the area despite the several warnings from the residents. They also revealed that the drug dealers have vowed to carry on with their dealings and if anyone tries to put impediments in their way then it would ruin their action.

An source close to the dealers who spoke to Daily Guide observed, “we are not here to assault any one. We are here to do our business; nothing, but business”. The source also expressed concerns about the attitude of the residents who are bent at getting rid of them from their area of operation, threatening “since each and everyone has his or her vocation, they should just leave us alone to do our job”.

Reports available indicate that the drug dealers have resorted to using school children in the transactions so as to circumvent the security agencies.
