Drugs found in Ekow Micah's house weighed 120g - Lab Analyst

A Laboratory Analyst has told an Accra Circuit Court that the alleged narcotic drugs found in the house of Ekow Micah, the ace musician weighed 120 grammmes.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mercy Agyapong, the dried leaves after forensic test showed that the leaves were cannabis sativa.

DSP Agyapong a third prosecution witness made this known when she was led in evidence by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Moses Atibillah, a prosecutor.

She was testifying in the case in ace Musician Micah, is being held over a drug related offence. Micah has denied the charge of possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority and he is currently on remand.

The witness said a parcel was given to her at the Ghana Police Forensic Laboratory.

According to her the sealed brown envelope contained compressed “plant material” which was weighed and analyzed.

DSP Agyapong said a report on the drugs was written and submitted to the appropriate agency.

The witness therefore tendered the report on the drugs in court.

Answering questions under cross examination by Mr Andrew Vortia, counsel for Micah, DSP Agyapong said the brown envelope was labeled “Republic Verse Ekow Micah.”

Meanwhile, Mr Vortia said he had filed a motion on notice to recall a witness in the matter.

According to defence counsel, the outcome of what he had filed would determine their side of the story.

Counsel said he was yet to serve the prosecutor ACP Atibillah.

The court has adjourned the matter to October 15 while the motion on notice to recall a witness in case has been fixed on October 20.

Micah had dumped Mr David Merson, who was earlier on handling his case, saying he did not need his services.

Mr Andy Kudzoe Vortia, who has now taken over the matter, prayed the court to grant him leave to secure its proceedings and study same.

Narrating the facts of the case earlier, ACP Atibillah said Micah is a resident of Ogbojo, near Kokrobite in Accra.

He said on August 4, Micah was arrested by the Airport Police over an alleged extortion case currently under investigations.

ACP Atibillah said the following day, at about 1130 hours, the Police and the accused person visited Micah’s house to conduct a search and in the process, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed in Micah’s “back pack”.

Prosecution said the exhibit was sent to the Police Forensic Crime laboratory for examination.
