Thu, 30 Oct 1997 Source: --

Duayaw-Nkwanta (Brong Ahafo), 29 Oct. The Tano district director of education, Mr J.K. Ameyaw, has said teachers who prove to be habitual absentees and drunkards would be dismissed from the teaching service. He said absenteeism and drunkenness on the part of some teachers contribute greatly to the poor academic performance in schools. Mr Ameyaw was addressing about 150 teachers from the Duayaw- Nkwanta educational circuit yesterday. He said teachers are regarded as the pivot around which the nation's educational policies could be translated into reality, so they should always be serious with their work. Mr Ameyaw said the staff rationalization exercise being undertaken by the Ghana Education Service nation-wide, was introduced to take care of over-staffing in some schools.
