National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Dumelo, says that he is working with the local executives of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC to find solutions to accommodation challenges of the University of Ghana, ABC News can report

Nearly 12,000 newly admitted students are battling for only 1,907 available accommodation spaces in the school.

The University of Ghana, which is the nation’s largest tertiary institution, has so far admitted 11,193 fresh students for the 2019/2020 academic year; but the inadequate residential facilities in the school has left over 9,000 of the students, many of whom are coming from outside Accra stranded.

While this appears to be a perennial problem, the challenges with this year’s accommodation have become a matter of concern to many.

Adding a voice to the matter is actor cum politician John Dumelo.

In a social media post, he said that he has spoken to some of the frustrated students and is “working to solve UG accommodation problems”

While many see his comments as a typical “political promise”, John Dumelo says he does not make promises.

I don’t make promises. I have personally helped about 30 students get accommodation this week alone.
