The Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Nurudeen Hamidan, has chastised members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) who want to embark on a demonstration against the recent power crisis, describing it as unnecessary and time wasting.

Hamidan says he wonders if members of the opposition party are serious at all, stressing that he finds it difficult to fathom why members of the NPP would channel their energies into such a demonstration which will not yield any positive outcome.

According to him, the issue of the power crisis is not new and that Ghanaians are very much aware of the challenges and efforts being made by government to resolve it.

Contributing to a discussion on the matter during a weekend political talk show on Hello FM, the Asokore Mampong MCE said the impending action by the NPP would not dissuade government from its comprehensive programme lined up to resolve the crisis once and for all. He said though he would not begrudge members of the NPP for choosing to exercise their fundamental rights as enshrined in the Constitution, he doubts if political-wise, it is prudent for such an action.

“If you ask me, I will say they are wasting their time because it will not change anything. President Mahama will not be pushed into doing anything that will not benefit the country and its people.”

The leadership of the NPP will, on Wednesday, lead a massive demonstration on the streets of Accra to send strong signals to the government about its approach towards resolving the long standing power crisis and the general harsh economic conditions.

The protest march is expected to be joined by other well-meaning Ghanaians including those from the academia, business and the informal sector.
