'Dumsor' frustrating UG students

The University of Ghana is struggling to fuel power plants bought to supply electricity to students in their halls of residence.

Students were levied 100 Ghana cedis for the academic year to purchase fuel and power plants on campus, as a stopgap measure against the prevailing power crisis.

But students have complained that the failure of the school in buying fuel, leaves them without power intermittently.

Class FM's Atiewin Mbillah reported that students were unhappy with the situation, as it has affected their studies for examination.

According to her, the students, who use electrical ovens, cannot also cook since the university does not permit them to use gas; therefore they are forced to buy food, which has added to their expenses.

The University of Ghana’s Public Relations Officer, Stella Amoah, said in a telephone interview with Class News that the authorities are unaware of the claims and will investigate them.
