Dumsor is Over Comment: 'Be a little sincere with Ghanaians' - Henry Osei Akoto to Akufo-Addo

A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Henry Osei Akoto, has expressed shock at the claims by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that there is no longer ‘dumsor’ in the country.

He said that he rather expected the president to share some sincerity with the people of Ghana regarding the erratic power supply in the country in recent times, instead of the untruths he peddled.

Henry Osei Akoto, who is also a former national organizer aspirant for the NDC, was reacting to the comments made by President Akufo-Addo on May 1, 2024, during the Workers’ Day parade at the Independence Square.

During his address, President Nana Akufo-Addo said that the recent power outages have been resolved following the completion of maintenance work on transformers by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

“Issues surrounding the maintenance of the transformers have been resolved. Indeed, we have witnessed stable power supply across the country with no load shedding reported anywhere yesterday…I am confident that the unfortunate era of dumsor will not return,” President Akufo-Addo said while delivering his speech at the Workers’ Day observation.

But Henry Osei Akoto has described these as false, indicating that, “The whole of Adenta was without lights last night and the president is able to lie about such a thing?

“The president should be a little sincere with Ghanaians and tell them exactly what the problem is so people can have sympathy with him.”

Speaking to GhanaWeb, the NDC members added that if this insincerity continues, Ghanaians will hit the streets in protest soon to force the government to act.

“If he chooses to continue to peddle these untruths, he should get ready for the people to hit the streets to demonstrate against dumsor,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Yaw Baah, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has urged the president to promptly address the erratic power situation.

According to him, it is unfortunate and unfair for Ghanaians to suffer dumsor under the previous government and endure the same under this current one.

“It is regrettable that people have to experience dumsor again; please do something about dumsor now,” Dr. Baah also said in his May Day address.
