National Communication Officer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has warned the Akufo-Addo government to stop parading itself as a government which brought an end to erratic power supply popularly called "dumsor".

“As a matter of fact, the load shedding exercise which was instituted somewhere 2013 when Ghana was confronted with the problem of dumsor was cancelled or was aborted or ended in the year 2016 and Dr. Bawumia himself acknowledged that the problem had been solved at that time and that is why if you Google right now you will see the article with the headline that “Mahama deserves no credit for fixing dumsor” where Dr. Bawumia stated in an interview in the studios of Joy FM that even though Mahama had fixed dumsor, he deserves no plaudits for that because he was the cause of the problem in the first place”, he recalled.

Commenting on the stability of electricity power supply in the country, Sammy Gyamfi as a panel member on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji talk show maintained that Mahama administration solved Dumsor problem by increasing the generation capacity from about 1800 mega watts to 4300 mega watts; reiterating that the NPP has not added even a mega watt of power to the generation capacity.

“It was the Mahama Administration which solved the problem of fuel for our power sector by bringing on board Atuabo (Mills-Mahama administration), by investing in the third Sanfoka Field, the E&I project and so on; you have done absolutely nothing about that”, he argued.

He however accused the Akufo-Addo led NPP government of incompetently bringing back Dumsor which the NDC government put to rest before leaving office in 2016.

“Can anybody say that dumsor has been solved as we speak now? Only last night, I slept in dumsor in my area. Two days ago, the situation was too bad; about half of Accra slept in darkness...we have been grappling with the problem of erratic power supply since November last year and you are here bragging that you have solved dumsor and that people have discarded their generators and nobody is buying fuel for their generators... we saw dumsor now because of your incompetence; because of the mismanagement of ESLA and the power sector, dumsor is coming back; we are in dumsor already”, he asserted.

He indicated that he will welcome the argument from the NPP communicators that the situation has improved considerably as compared to what the situation was in 2015 but will not accept the notion that Ghanaians are now having access to constant electricity supply.
