"Dumsor" to ease as 200MW is added to national grid

Ghanaians will soon see an ease in the ongoing power rationing programme as 200 megawatts has been added “over the last few weeks”.

Announcing the latest addition to the national production, President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, April 14 said government is working tirelessly to “ensure that we address these challenges sooner than later”.

He acknowledged how the power supply challenges have had a heavy impact on industrial and domestic activities.

President Mahama, who made this known at the commissioning of a substation in Accra, assured that: “We are making progress in overcoming the power gap.”

Ghana’s deficit is currently around 450MW with little reserve margin.

But President Mahama reiterated that the gap will be closed by end of year as has been promised.

“Over the last few weeks at least some 200MW have been fed into the system and we will continue to increase the power being fed into the system until the gap is eliminated completely by year’s end.”

Residents are currently suffering 24 hours of power outages and 12 hours of supply while industries go off 12 hours every two days with the exception of Sundays.
