Dutch philanthropist assists school

Techiman (B/A) May 23, GNA - A Dutch philanthropist has donated building materials worth 10.81 million cedis (1000 Euros) towards the construction of a 120 million cedis eight-seater water closet toilet for Pentecost Preparatory School in Techiman in Brong Ahafo. Area has presented the items, which included 100 bags of cement, a bundle roofing sheets, five trips of sand and 30 pieces half-inch iron rods on behalf of Mr. Robert Dalien, the philanthropist, to the school. This is the fourth donation made by Mr. Dalien of R.K. School LODIJIKU in Holland, to the Techiman School, which has already received computers, educational learning materials and dual desks. Nana Asare said it was the aim of the donor to help improve teaching and learning at the basic school level in the Ghanaian school . He advised parents to encourage their children in their studies and

urged management of the school to use the items judiciously. Apostle John Appiah Aidoo, Techiman Area Apostle of the Church of Pentecost who received the items on behalf of the school expressed appreciation to Nana Asare, whom he said had lived up to Christian principles by presenting the donation of 1,000 Euros and many other materials that the donor had routed through him to the school.

He gave the assurance that the materials would be put to proper use

to enable the pupils have a better place of convenience. Dr. Yaw Yeboah, Executive Director of Pentecost Social Service, said the church was committed to the sustained economic and social well-being of its members and communities.

He said to this end, the church had commenced a poverty alleviation programme in the northern sector of the country to help reduce poverty amongst the people.

Dr. Yeboah commended the school interim management team and the Parent Teacher Association for providing an 80 million cedis computer laboratory for the school.

Mr. E. Y. Akuoku, Director of Statistics of Ghana Education Service who stood in for Mr. Kwabena Fosu Gyeabour, Techiman Municipal Director of Education, warned that any private school that refused to register with the GES by the end of June would be closed down.

He expressed gratitude to NGOs and others for their roles in the development of education in the country.

Mr. Adu Koranteng, Techiman Municipal Deputy Coordinating Director said the Assembly urged parents to take advantage of the capitation grant and enroll their children in schools.

Madam Janet Twene-Ampomah, Headmistress of the School thanked the Adontenhene and the donor for the immense contributions towards the development of the school.

In another development, Mr. Jones Asitanga, an elder of the Church of Pentecost and Chairman of the PTA donated a refrigerator worth two million cedis and 500,000 cedis cash to the school. The donation was in response to an appeal the teachers and pupils made to the PTA for assistance.

An appeal for funds in support of the toilet project yielded two million cedis.
