Accra, Jan. 26, GNA - Mr Kofi Dzamesi, nominee for the Minister of the Volta Region, on Wednesday denied allegations that he sabotaged his boss, former Volta Regional Minister, Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa to ensure that he (Dzamesi) was chosen as the substantive Regional Minister. The nominee said he always assisted and supported his former boss and at no time did he ever try to edge him out.

Mr Dzamesi was answering a question from, Mr Alban Bagbin, Minority Leader, when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

On how he would help resolve the many chieftaincy disputes in the Region, he said he was looking at making the Judicial Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, functional.

He said it was sad that many of chieftaincy disputes were being sent to the courts for settlement.

On conflict areas in the region, he said there was the need to build police stations at Tsito and Nkonya, which were hot spots, as part of measures to deal with tensions in the Region.

He said poverty and illiteracy were two key reasons for some problems in the Region.

Mr Dzamesi said an education endowment fund had been set up to help solve illiteracy problems in the Region.

On allegations that NDC members were being discriminated against in the disbursement of the Poverty Alleviation Fund, he said this was not true.

Answering questions on petitions brought against him by the Apostle Revelation Society, to the effect that he banned the celebration of the church's anniversary, the nominee said it was the Regional Security Coordinating Council, which took the decision to ban the celebration for security reasons.

On sports development in the Region, he said the Kpando Hearts of Lions Club would be assisted to enable it to deliver more on football. He said sports development had suffered in the Region because of the lack of funds.

According to him, he would think of setting up a sports endowment fund with contributions from various sources including the district assemblies and Members of Parliament to support sporting activities.
