Dzamesi unveils government's development priority areas

Ho, Feb. 16, GNA - The Government's three-pronged priority areas of good governance, private sector and human resource development, in no way relegate other areas such as infrastructure build-up to the background, Mr Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister has said Mr Dzamesi made the clarification at a meeting with Regional Heads of Ministries Departments, Agencies and Public Corporations represented in Ho on Wednesday.

He said modernisation of agriculture and other key areas of the economy remained priorities but were only "blended into the current priority areas".


Mr Dzamesi, who was Deputy Volta Regional Minister in the first term of the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) commended various departments for their good work in the past four years. He said their cooperation was crucial to the success of government's work and implored civil and public servants to approach their work with humility and diligence.


Mr Dzamesi said he was determined to erase the negative perceptions of hostility to the government that had been associated with the Region. He called for duty consciousness, punctuality at work and at all official functions and information on their out-of-station movements and transfers to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).


Only 19 out of the about 55 participants were present at the venue of the meeting at the scheduled time of 1400 hours with the meeting itself commencing at 1430 hours.

During an open forum, Mr Maxwell Akoto-Mireku, Volta Regional Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) observed that lateness to meetings was a big drawback in the Region.


Miss Ellen Alai, of the National Council for Women and Development (NCWD) made a special appeal to other heads of departments to ensure that policies implemented impacted positively on women.


Mr Ralph Avornyo, acting Regional Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) suggested that such meetings should set targets to be used in assessing progress in the various fields. Mr Joy Agbleze, Divisional Officer responsible for Public Relations at the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Regional Office decried the rampant occurrence of bush fires in the region.


He said within the first 46 days of this year, 76 fire incidents were recorded resulting in some deaths and loss of property. 16 Feb. 05
