E/R: 6,190 NPP members expunged from NDC register

The Eastern regional secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has revealed that a total of 6,190 non-NDC members who registered during the party's biometric voters registration have been expunged from the Voters' register.

These aliens believed to be members of the New Patriotic Party were identified during the exhibition of the party’s register.

According to the executives, the mission of the suspected NPP members was to ostensibly vote against President John Mahama in Saturday's presidential and parliamentary primaries.

Addressing the media in Koforidua Thursday, the Eastern regional Secretary of the NDC, Mark Oliver Kevor said, "The region initially registered a total of 183,620 across all the 33 constituencies during the period of registration. After the exhibition exercise, a total of 6,190 were deleted as invalid registration whilst 5,194 inclusions were done. We are therefore expecting an estimated 182,614 members to go to the polls on Saturday".

Mr. Kevor explained that, the party is energized by the new process and therefore hopeful of a successful and peaceful election. He urged the security agencies "to be professional and deal with any deviant without fear or favor according to the law".

He said the Electoral Commission has been entrusted to supervise the election which is being contested by 78 aspirants across the 33 constituencies in the region.

He reminded all party members of voting 'YES' for President Mahama in other to achieve the target of 100% endorsement for the President.

He said only presidential election will be held in constituencies where there are unopposed candidates.

The constituencies are Abirem, Achiase, Atiwa East, Atiwa West, Fanteakwa North, Fanteakwa South, New Juaben north and Okere.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern regional Police Command, ASP Nketia Yeboah, in an interview with Starr News said the police is ready to maintain law and order in all polling stations.

He said the Police will deal with persons who engage in unlawful acts without political consideration.
