One person has died at Nyame Nti, a farming community in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern region after a heavy rainstorm.
The rainstorm also ripped off three classrooms of Nyame Nti M/A School displacing dozens of school children and their teachers now studying under trees.
Also affected in the community were two houses which collapsed killing a man identified as Kofi Mensah Sam, believed to be in his 40’s. Other occupants of the buildings who got injured have been treated and discharged.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the District have confirmed the incident which occurred December 3, 2019.
Parts of the Eastern Region have been experiencing devastating rainstorms for the past two weeks.
The worst-hit town was Somanya where a 20-minute violent rainstorm injured five persons, ripped off many houses and commercial buildings accommodating financial institutions.
Many cars were smashed while electrical installations were affected. At least 600 residents were displaced.
The Eastern Regional Director of the NADMO, Kwame Appiah Kodua, says the organization has inaugurated the municipal/District Disaster Committees across the region and Disaster Volunteer Groups (DVGs) in the various communities to build resilience and swift responses to disasters which he believes are working on grounds.
He, however, hastened to add, the Regional Directorate will continue to intensify public education on disasters while facilitating the timely release of relief support services to the affected communities.
