Thursday, June 30 2016, marked exactly one year in office of the Chairperson of the Ghana’s Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, after she was sworn into office by President John Dramani Mahama.
The EC Boss, a Lawyer by profession had no breathing space after assuming power as she swung straight into action soon after, having to deal with issues relating to the credibility of the Voters register.
In the past one year, she has come under heavy pressure especially from the opposition parties led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who initially demanded for a new voters register claiming the current electoral roll is fraught with anomalies rendering it not credible.
Currently the EC is in court after being sued by former PNC Youth Organizer, Abu Ramadan and another Evans Nimako who are asking the Supreme Court to order persons who registered with the NHIS cards and voted in the 2012 elections to be removed.
At her swearing in, President John Mahama while congratulating the EC Boss for her new position urged her to psych herself up as she was stepping in big shoes to do a job that is really difficult.
