Accra, Feb. 21, GNA- The Electoral Commission (EC) is taking steps to rectify the error it made in publishing the gazetted results of the parliamentary results of Abokobi-Madina Constituency in Election 2004.
Ms Laurentia Kpatakpa, Acting Regional Director of the EC was reacting to a petition by Mr James Amoah, the candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party over the slashing of the officially declared results by 10,000 votes.
Ms Kpatakpa whose reaction was contained in a letter she wrote on the issue on Monday said: "Mr Amoah received 30,330 and not 20,330 votes as published in the January 1, 2005 of the Daily Graphic."
The December 9, 2004 edition of the paper, however, published the correct results.
" We regret the embarrassment caused to the candidate and we want... to take action to correct this anomaly quickly."
Mr Amoah told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra that the wrong figures had reduced his credibility as a formidable candidate in the parliamentary elections.
Alhaji Adamu B. Sorogho of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who polled 32,080 votes to win.
The Convention People's Party had 752 votes; Democratic People's Party 373 votes while an independent candidate got 408 votes.
