The Electoral Commission (EC) has appealed to those whose services it engaged during the 2012 general elections to exercise restraint while it makes efforts to pay them.

The aggrieved persons have become increasingly impatient following the EC’s inability to pay them their allowances three months after they rendered their services.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam programme on Monday, Principal Public Relations Officer Madam Sylvia Annor assured the public that the Commission would soon rectify the anomaly and pay the money it owes.

In a related development, the EC spokesperson called for an end to discussions over the arrests of three top Northern Region EC officials on Sunday over their alleged involvement in attempts to tamper with electoral materials.

Supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) dragged two of these officials to the police station earlier Sunday in connection with that case.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer Ebenezer Tetteh told Joy News that the third suspect is the Northern Regional Deputy Director of the EC.

He explained that three functionaries of the NPP had picked up information that the “regional EC had brought in some pink sheets for the [2012] presidential elections to be signed.”

According to Madam Annor, the matter is already being investigated and as such, the EC awaits the outcome of the inquiry.
