A sympathizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) based in Kumasi, Nana Owusu, is alleging that, the Electoral Commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei is behind the interdiction of the Finance Director, Dr. Joseph Kwaku Asamoah.
The embattled officer was directed by the EC Chair to proceed on leave following an order from the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
Deputy Commissioner, Georgina Opoku Amankwaah and Chief Accountant Kwaku Owusu Agyei-Larbi are assisting the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) in unraveling the truth about the alleged misappropriation of GHC480,000 from the Endowment Fund at the Electoral Commission.
But Nana Owusu says, the EC Chair orchestrated the interdiction of the Director because the Finance Director does not approve of some budget of the commissioner.
According to him, Charlotte Osei since she took over from her former boss, Afari Gyan refused to use a car which was used by him [Afari Gyan] and requested for a new one.
He further alleged that, the EC boss has furnished her office in an extravagant manner and from what he has gathered, the furnishing surpasses the office of the president.
The old vehicle which was used by Afari Gyan has also been handed over to the commissioner’s husband, he alleged. Nana Owusu has therefore called for thorough investigations to be conducted to establish the truth behind the saga because ‘’there is something fishy behind the issue.
I will encourage government to do due diligence on the matter. The interdiction was unfortunate. Charlotte Osei has caused financial loss to the state and until we investigate her, we will not establish the truth.’’ He has also called for the interdiction of Charlotte Osei to allow a proper probe into the matter.
''The whole thing is about approving of budget by the commissioner. The Finance Director always shoots down budget by the commissioner and because of that, she has orchestrated to get him sacked.''
