Saltpond (C/R), March 21, GNA - The Mfantseman District Chief Executive, Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur has commended the Electoral Commission for increasing the allowances for officials engaged to undertake the registration exercise.
He said the hue and cry over the allowance nearly marred the exercise and appealed to the officials to accept the enhanced allowances in good faith and work hard to ensure that a clean and credible voters' register could be arrived at.
The supervisor now receives 300,000 cedis instead of 250,000 cedis, deputy supervisor will receive 270,000 cedis instead of 220,000 cedis while registration officers will be paid 250,000 cedis instead of 200,000 cedis.
The DCE made the remark when he visited some registration centres in the district to find out progress of the exercise. Some of the centres he visited were at Saltpond, Mankessim, Kormantse, Anomabo, Abandze, Ebiram and Arkra.
He expressed satisfaction about the peaceful and orderly manner the exercise was progressing and commended the officials and the party agents for a good work done.
Mr Quainoo-Arthur commended the people of Kormantse and Anomabo for their high turn-up at the centres and urged those yet to register to do so without delay.
