The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has officially been declared the winner of the constituency's seat.
The announcement was made by the Returning Officer at the Greater Accra Regional Collation Centre of the Electoral Commission on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, marking the conclusion of a contentious electoral process.
The declaration came after days of heightened drama and standoffs during the collation process, which saw clashes between NDC supporters and security forces outside the collation premises.
The tense atmosphere prompted the EC to suspend proceedings twice earlier this week. Ultimately, the process resumed under the directive of the EC, leading to the final announcement.
However, the result has not been accepted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyieh.
This follows earlier confrontations at the collation centre, where representatives of both the NDC and NPP accused each other of attempts to subvert the process.
