EC finds missing voter's list

Ho, May 19, GNA-The Volta Regional Directorate of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has put right the mix-up that delayed the photo taking exercise at the High Court Registration Centre in Ho until Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Mohammed Adoquaye, Volta Regional Director of the EC told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the lists of registered voters at the centre got mixed up with those of other centres but were retrieved on Wednesday after a frantic search.

He said the lists were found just before a scheduled emergency meeting of Political Parties to deliberate on ways to tackle the problem could take place.

He conceded that it was hectic and taxing to locate the missing lists among the 311 registration centres in the Ho District. People who registered at the Centre and went there on Tuesday to take their photos only to realise that they could not do so, accused the EC of deliberately trying to disenfranchise them.

Asked if the centre would open a day longer than others in view of the delay, Mr Adoquaye said he could not tell since the centre was a small one with only 278 voters who might all take their photos within the original time frame.

The centre, which Mr Adoquaye described as a "high profile" centre has the Supervision High Court Judge, High Court Judges, Journalists, personnel of the Regional Offices of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), some banks, SSNIT, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and other government officials on the roll.
