Principal Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission Sylvia Annor says the Commission has already begun implementation of reforms to the country’s electoral system as per calls made by the Supreme Court during the 2012 Election Petition.

Not only the Supreme Court but also Kofi Annan, a Former United Nations Secretary General, requested a second look at how elections are organized by the Commission in Ghana, after the ruling.

Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on August 29 – exactly one year after the verdict – Ms Annor noted that most of the reforms need legislative backing before implementation though some have been put into practice already.

For example, instead of a theoretical training of electoral officers, the EC decided to do hands-on training ahead of the recent limited registration exercise, she said.

She reminded all about calls made by the Commission last year for proposals from stakeholders regarding reforms.

“We are about getting to the final stage to the reforms,” she stated.
