The Electoral Commission of Ghana has come under heavy criticisms for overturning the parliamentary results at the Fanteakwa North Constituency and declaring the NPP’s Kwame Appiah Kodua as the winner of the race.

The electoral body earlier declared the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Haruna Apaw-Wiredu as the winner at Begoro after the close of polls on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

The Returning Officer for the area, Zacharia Adams, declared the NDC candidate the winner, securing 11,138 votes, with Kwame Appiah Kodua polling 10,847 votes.

However, following opposition from the NPP over the results, a re-collation exercise held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Tesano Police Training School in Accra, placed the Eastern Regional NADMO Coordinator, Appiah Kodua, ahead of the NDC candidate with 11,751 votes, while his opponent garnered 11,297 votes.

The latest development has sparked criticisms among some Ghanaians, who are questioning the legality and authority of the EC to overturn the results.

Additionally, they are alleging that the NPP is colluding with the EC and state security to manipulate the results in their favor.

Ghanaians, primarily supporters of the NDC, have called on their leaders to take action and prevent the overturning of parliamentary seats that have already been declared.
