EC urges electorate to participate in voter exhibition

Mr George Kwame Amoah, Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) has appealed to electorate to participate in the on-going Voter Exhibition.

The exhibition is also for re-registration of people who use NHIS cards as means of identification to register.

He said: “This year’s Voter Exhibition exercise is very crucial as the commission has introduced new features for verification of all electorate at the Polling Stations to help the EC identify people who have challenges with their finger prints.”

Mr Amoah noted that it is a national responsibility and civic rights for everyone to participate in the exercise; “challenge all political parties to encourage their sympathisers to participate and cooperate with the EC”.

He also called on the media to contact EC officials for any clarification and other operational hiccups, which they may observe during their monitoring; “We need the assistance of all citizens to ensure that we compile a credible voter’s register.”

Meanwhile the Ghana News Agency (GNA) monitoring team has observed steady progress in patronage at some of the centres in Accra as compared to day one.

The 21-Day Voter Exhibition exercise started from Monday July 18 and expected to end on August 7, offers all registered voters the opportunity to check their names and particulars and also ensure that names of the dead, minors and double registrations are removed and corrected.

Ms Felicia Glover, Exhibition Officer at the Osu Klottey District polling station G-MAA F 252/1 (B), in an interview with the GNA said the station had not recorded any incidence of violence or misunderstanding but the turnout had been low and expressed the hope that people would register by the deadline of the exercise.

Mr Edmund Adom, Exhibition Officer at the CDR Former Office polling station at the Osu Klottey District said the verification machines are not posing any challenges and are keenly doing their work.

Mr Gabriel Quaye, Exhibition Officer, United Faith Assembly polling station said persons who do not find their names in the register are given the inclusion forms to fill to make their complains and submit it to the EC headquarters for the issue to be resolved.
