EC wants to frustrate the political space in Ghana - Sylvester Mensah

“There is no problem with the data base, there is no problem with the infrastructure, the timing is completely absurd,” were the words former Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah, used to describe the controversial new voters’ register.

According to Sylvester Mensah, it is wrong on the part of the Electoral Commission to produce a new voters’ register barely nine months into the 2020 polls.

The former NDC flagbearer hopeful believed the decision by the EC is a ploy to frustrate the political space in Ghana.

He was speaking at the ‘w)kpene’ demonstration, the third of its kind, by members of the Inter-Party Resistance against the New Voter Register.

The protest was held after a meeting between the parties and the eminent advisory committee to deliberate of the biometric voters register ended inconclusively.

Despite the several backlash from most opposition parties, the EC said it is on course to produce a new credible biometric voters’ register and dispatch copies to all the constituencies by November 8.

The EC, explaining the reason for a new register, said the current register, which was compiled in 2012, was over-bloated because many people who had passed away still had their names on it. The Commission added that there is the need to replace outmoded biometric machines.

But the NDC Kingpin thinks “everything is wrong."

Sylvester Mensah averred that the reasons given by the EC are illogical arguing that besides fingerprints, bio data have a longer life span and can last up to 50 years.



“Ghanaians must wake up. The EC is up to some mischief. We now have a Minister for Electoral Commission not an Electoral Commission.”
