Dr. Eric Asare Bossman, a deputy chairman at the Electoral Commission, has promised the Ghanaian electorate that the EC would deliver “very fair” elections at all levels.

He told TV3 in an exclusive interview that the transparent manner elections would be conducted in the country would ensure that those voted for are those who get to lead.

His assurance on Friday, comes two days after President Akufo-Addo sworn-in Jean Adukwei Mensa as the new EC boss and her two Deputies, Samuel Tettey and Dr. Eric Asare Bossman. A corporate legal practitioner, Ms. Adwoa Asuama Abrefa, was also sworn in as a member of the Commission.

On June 28, 2018, President Akufo-Addo gave directions for the removal of former EC Chair, Charlotte Osei and her two Deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwa following recommendations from a Committee set up by Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo.

Charged by the President to protect the integrity of the Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare told TV3, “I think as a commission we are committed to run a system that is very fair, that is transparent that would ensure that the voters are those who are going to decide” who leads them.

“Election is not about theory, election is more about practice, we are going to do it in such a way that what the people will choose would at the end of the day or the individual they will select will become those who will lead our country at the district level, parliamentary, in that manner,” he stressed.

Having started work at the EC, Dr. Asare Bossman who was a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana was confident the team would live up to expectations.

“We know the EC has gone through a lot of problems; some of them, generally it has not been very, very good, but I think that we are well poised, we understand the challenges ahead, we appreciate the opportunities that have been given to us…I know the task ahead is very daunting…we are so well poised for the opportunity ahead.

“I am convinced that we are going to leave a mark that many will look up to and say that our time we did a great job.”
