ECG Manager worried over theft of poles, overhead conductors

The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr Bismark Otoo, has expressed concern about the rampant stealing of installed wood poles, overhead conductors and energy meters. Mr Otoo said the ECG is barely two years old in the district but his outfit had been threatened by armed robbery that almost claimed the life of a night watchman who intercepted the robbers.

He has therefore called on the local communities to be vigilant. "The installations are yours. Do not let a few disgruntled and selfish individuals deny you this all important facility."

Mr Otoo expressed his gratitude to the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly and the District Chief Executive, Mr Musah Biney, for accommodating his office and staff at the local community centre for the past two years.

"A new office complex has been built at the cost of 200 million cedis to house the company," Mr Otoo said, and advised all customers to pay their bills promptly and voluntarily in order to avoid disconnection.

He promised that his outfit would continue to improve upon its services to its clients.
