Power supply to the Elubo health center in the Western region has been cut over an unpaid debt.

Western regional public relations officer of the ECG, Philip Osei Bonsu, who confirmed the development to Starr News’ correspondent Emmanuel Ohene Gyan disclosed that the administrative block and residential accommodations for the health officials have been disconnected over an outstanding GHC15,499 debt, while the maternity block of the facility owes GHC26,806.71.

According to sources at the hospital, frantic efforts are being made to settle the debt.

“The district embarked on a mass disconnection exercise in the Elubo township and the Elubo Health Centre was one of the facilities that owed ECG on the disconnection docket so staff of ECG moved to the facility. There are some directives that exempt especially departments under the Ministry of health from disconnection exercises.

"There are two metres, one for the residency and administration that has been disconnected but the metre that serves the maternal block and essential facilities are still running because of its critical nature, so we are trying to create avenues where we can break away from the bulk metering system to ensure we don’t continue to face such situations,” the worried source explained.
