The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has admitted that it is not abiding by any timetable in shedding load for the past few weeks.

It says the country’s energy situation prevents it from religiously adhering to any guide.

The Company since its last timetable in September – which spanned till October 31 – has failed to renew the timetable for consumers.

“We cannot adhere religiously to any timetable,” said the Company’s Public Relations Officer, “when we have such a challenge becasue we don’t have enough generation already.”

William Boateng was speaking to TV3’s Sandra Amarquaye in an interview on Thursday, November 13 when he made this known.

“When you have a generation deficit, everywhere in the world, you definitely have challenges in your distribution system.”

Mr Boateng rejected assertions that the Company deliberately turns power off.

“It is not intentional that we just want to put power off and on. It is because of where we find ourselves now.”

He added that what ECG is currently doing is to save the country’s energy plants from collapse as regular supply of energy would have collapsed the system.
